The Hunger Challenge and Tyson's Generous Offer
Several food bloggers in the Bay Area recently participated in a Hunger Challenge sponsored by the San Francisco Food Bank. They agreed to spend a week feeding themselves on $3 per day. This is the amount of money that many in the Bay Area have on a daily basis to feed themselves.
Please check out the blogs of all of the participants, their experiences and their recipes as they navigated through this challenge
And, of course, they wrote about their experiences--how to shop for the week on $21, how to cook low-cost nutritious meals, and how to deal with feelings of hunger. One of the bloggers, Amy Sherman, was using Twitter. An executive at Tyson Foods saw her post and offered to donate up to 100 lbs of food for every comment posted on a special site, up to a maximum of 200,000 lbs of protein (chicken, meatballs, etc.). Please go to this site and leave a comment. You need to leave your email address, and Tyson promises not to market, sell or do anything else with this list. Please help bring more food to the Bay Area food banks.
