Slow_____ (down, food, home)
While most of the news is dominated by the slow-down in the economy, I have two good things to report.
First, Slow Food. The Slow Food Movement started in Italy in the mid-80s as an antidote to the fast food that was spreading throughout the world at the expense of good nutrition, food that is central to culture and sustainable food practices. There are chapters all over the world today. A few years ago, my friend Gayle Keck was attending a lecture on Slow Food, where she learned about the Masumoto Family Farm and their innovative program that allows groups to adopt one of their heirloom Elberta peach trees to learn about the growing process and harvest our trees. I am excited to be heading to Del Ray tomorrow (in the Central Valley) to pick our peaches. It is our second year with our tree, and I am looking forward to hanging out with good friends and to the wonderful bounty we will bring home. Food lovers, check out Gayle's website, Been There, Ate That.
And now we get to the Slow Home Movement. I just found a website, www.theslowhome.com. The movement hopes to raise awareness and raise the bar for home design, and sustainability. Three key themes for them are Slow, Close, Light. Check it out.
Off to pack for peach picking...
