I Love Weekends in October

(Painting Courtesy of Jennifer Wasson)

I have a love-hate relationship with October.

I am always disappointed to have fewer hours of daylight, and I really start to notice this and mourn the loss of light in late September and early October.

Peaches!

They’re Baaaaaa aaaack!

double stuff the goat

I had the pleasure of seeing the goats on Cortland Street in Bernal Heights today.  Oreo and her son, Double Stuff, that is.  Oreo, a former neighbor of mine, is usually off at work--in the Presidion or some other city park or open space that needs grooming.  They were in the front of Good Life Grocery today, munching on romaine lettuce, cardboard and paper.

Aquatic Park Rocks!

This makes me wonder: How many rock artists are there in SF?  How many different styles are there?

PARK(ing) Day Report

It was a blast!  I left the office late in the afternoon, and was able to see just a handful of spots before my 6 PM appointment, but they were terrific.  First stop was on 2nd at South Park, a miniature golf course constructed by the Blnkt Collaborative.  There were two people on this three hole course, and half a dozen people hanging out having a great time.

Peach Picking at the Masumoto Farm

Last weekend, I went to pick peaches at our adoptive tree at the Masumoto Family Farm in Del Ray. This has become an annual ritual, including the taco stops on the way and dinner at Uncle Harry's restaurant in Reidley.   This year, the peaches have ripened quickly.  Got to run, making jam, canning salsa and giving peaches away.

Hit and Run Hula, Coming to a Location Near You

San Francisco's Hula School, Na Lei Hulu | Ka Wekiu, is doing a series of performances throughout the city today (August 15th 2009) in an event known as Hit and Run Hula.  The school, dedicated to the preservation of Hawaiian culture through the teaching of Hula also offers instruction in language, history and crafts.  Very cool.

Street Food Festival Supports Micro-Entrepreneurs

A Street Food Festival to support La Cocina, a non-profit located on Folsom Street in the Mission that is a business incubator for food businesses in San Francisco.   I first learned of La Cocina at last year's Slow Food Festival--one of the businesses that started at La Cocina was at the event.  Serving food in City Hall Plaza.  The longest line.  It was worth the wait.

Kids' Digital Design Contest

This just in from Mason Kirby, a local architect:

Seward Street Slides

I was speaking with someone recently who was talking about the Seward Street Slides in Noe Valley.  These Slides are two long concrete slides.  Who knew there were big concrete slides in Noe Valley!  I did a search and found some fabulous videos on YouTube.  The link to my favorite, entitled Wee!, is here.
